Jean
Rouyer, President of the A.M.P.I.
Over the last few years, Martinican industry has undergone great
changes modernisation, computerisation, automation, improvements
in quality and the introduction of new information and computer
technologies.
Today, new information and computer technologies have conquered
the whole world and Martinique is no exception. Indeed, local
companies have rapidly adopted them as a daily work tool, making
it possible to overcome the constraints of insularity and distance
from the main centres of the world economy.
Many local industries now use the Internet to look for information
or communicate with suppliers and customers abroad. An Increasing
number of Internet sites is being created by Martinican companies,
especially those in tourism and traditional export industries
(rum or tropical agro-food production). However, the whole range
of Martinican industry is not yet sufficiently represented on
the Internet.
The A.M.P.I. is developing Internet use. It has chosen to create
its own website and hopes to make it a showcase for Martinican
industry, a product catalogue enabling every company to be present
on the net, to become familiar with it and subsequently to create
their own website.
We have wanted to create a dynamic website that provides daily
information on Martiniques industrial sector and related
information on the economy, technology and employment and news
and events linked to the French overseas départements
or to industry. This new source of information will enable member
companies, the institutions we work with and surfers both in
Martinique and elsewhere to discover our activities or to get
to know them better.
The world is changing, we must change with
it.
